Davao del Sur - Mindanao, Philippines

NaturalEarth is targeting tribal communities in the Davao del Sur district of Mindanao, Philippines.

Most people who reside in the rural areas of Davao del Sur are living in extreme poverty.

There are limited jobs available and local tribes barely scrape by on subsistence farming.  Though, despite being a farming community, they have to do without access to a variety of food, and without any balance in their diet. Fish and meat are almost unavailable.

Problems:

1. No electricity

2. Extreme Poverty

3. Malnutrition or food insufficiency

4. Lack of clean water

5. Inadequate livelihood opportunities

6. Lack of incentives to practice sustainable stewardship

NaturalEarth is working towards creating a jointly owned enterprise for the production and distribution of goods, operated by its members (tribal members) for their mutual benefit.

Project Goals:

  1. The Cooperative becoming economically independent n a short period of time.
  2. Proceeds used to continue to expand developments in the rural Davao del Sur communities.

This will help the Philippines to increase food production and enhance people’s incomes, while supporting sustainable food security.

NaturalEarth will assist with creating the necessary relationships in order to bring goods created and grown to market. Management of the project will be done on a co-management system with the local members.

A monitoring program will be set up to address the program's development, financial managment, and livelihood operation.

Support our efforts as we return in August 2010 for our second on-site visit to work closely with the Kolan, Balabag, Manobo, Matigsalog Tribes to continue our site evaluation's and project planning in order to meet as many of their immediate needs as soon as possible.

We want to feature projects that are accelerating the impact of world-changing ideas for people. Simple and practical working solutions with tangible results that have a direct affect on people.

All project monies are raised through fundraising efforts; of which monies will encourage and supplement research, installation, and the operation and maintenance of these very systems.

Make a donation and join us on this exciting adventure to bring power to the people!

 Help us change someone's life.
